Whether your living room is a 21 foot length with a large picture window at one end or you live in a tiny apartment and the living room is bijou to say the least, there are living room décor ideas to suit you and your budget. You can go for cozy chic and warm up your living space or go for open-plan with vaulted ceilings and an expanse of herringbone hardwood floor. At the end of your project you will have ended up with a space that you can live in comfortably, decorated according to the space you have available. Are you aiming for a peaceful retreat, full of serenity and harmony or a more user-friendly, basic living space where you feel comfortable slipping your shoes off and putting your feet up.
If I was choosing a color scheme for my living room I would go to the cooler colors on my color wheel chart – the blues and greens which can be used in different shades to achieve a ‘joined-up’ look of cool elegance. I always make sure that, when I paint my ceiling, I use a light shade of the room’s main color on my ceiling so, if my color scheme was blue, I would use the lightest eggshell blue I could find for my ceiling and then a slightly deeper shade of blue for my walls. If you have mouldings you could paint those completely white, or go for a darker shade of blue to both the walls and the ceiling. I would use matt paint on my walls and a paint with some kind of sheen on the mouldings.
For windows, to add height, place the curtain pole as high as possible near to the ceiling. This will give your curtains plenty of drop to achieve an elegant drape. Modern décor arrangements always suggest that the fabric should be allowed to pool on the floor – never in my house. To me, artistic though it evidently is, this ‘pooling’ idea for the fabric is just a dust collector and, if you have dogs like I do, is just asking them to make a bed out of the fabric! Why did I mention this? Find out what the trends are, but that does not mean you have to follow the trends slavishly. Adapt styles to suit you and your lifestyle.
You would think, wouldn’t you, that a large picture placed on the wall in a small room would be overpowering. Surprisingly, it isn’t. I have the tiniest lounge you can imagine and, on the wall above the fireplace I have a really large picture of the Defence of Rourke’s Drift, depicting the British soldiers of ‘B’ Company, South Wales Borderers. This picture is very loud, very busy, with plenty going on in it. However, it looks absolutely fantastic in that room, almost as if the room was made to fit the picture!

Try them both to see which one gets you there.
White isn't a good color for a dining room.
A big boquet of flowers is pretty as a centerpiece, if moved before you all sit down to eat so you can see each other.
A beautiful chandalier isn't a bad idea, just so long as it's light is cast just on the food and on the faces of the guests and isn't too high or too low from the cieling.
Use rich colors for the dining room that spark conversation and appetite.
Such colors are reds, oranges and yellows. Anything around those colors. Rich, deep and bold colors and designs.
A mirror, very big or medium big also is nice to make it appear like more guests and food are in the dining room than really are and also reflects the lighting. Creates a great illusion.
A fireplace is nice in a dining room as well.
Pictures of food and tables and eateries or diners or cafes also are cute in a dining room, or just pictures of flowers and food.
Don't put pictures of people on the walls though cuz it'll give the feeling that you're being rudely stared at while you eat.
Have soft chairs without arms to sit on, (except at the head and foot of the table, these can have arms on the chairs), and have very minimal decoration. Keep the floor clear and clutter free, and no other distractions to take your focus from the food and the others eating with you. (i.e. TV's, radios, a gaucky picture, etc).
Big and luscious drapes are really neat in a dining room to put around or over the window(s).

You can go to Sherwin Williams color visualizer and pick rooms to repaint and change the furniture colors. It gives you an idea of what your room will look like with whatever colors you pick.

I removed the drywall and installed a header across 4 studs on the top and a sill 26" below that. This allowed me to install my 42" plasma inside the wall. I built all the wires into the wall over to the stereo system. And put the drywall back. So all you see is the glass TV flush with the wall and the hole is 1/4" larger on all sides so you dont see the hole. Total cost was $30 plus another $40 for a faux paint job. I'm at work or I would add a pic.

PLEASE…Do not do what froglady says!!
For scrapbooking, there are a ton of adhesives on the market. Just go to a craft store and look in that section.
Try painters tape in your daughters room. It won't cause any damage at all, and should be sticky enough to hold foam letters. You can find painters tape in the hardware section with paint supplies.
Good luck

Since you're not allowed to paint the wall, then the best thing that you can do to add colors to your apartment is to purchase some nice curtains. Use a vibrant color for the curtains. I would suggest a color that match up with the pictures that you currently have on the wall. Keep all of your furnitures simple and if possible, in the same color. For example, a brown couch with black chairs and a white TV stand willl be too confusing for the eyes! If you don't mind me suggesting, perhaps you should take off those christmas tree lights. It just makes the room more clutter. Purchase a decent size rug to put under the coffee table. The rug should match with the color of the curtains. If you don't have a coffee table, then just put the rug infront of the couch. This will give the room a nice dimension and a homey feeling. You can even have throw pillows on the couch.
As for the kitchen, since the apartment is shared by two roomates, stainless steel would look nice and elegant. You don't want it too be too clutter since we're trying to make the apartment more spacious. You can purchase a stainless steel dish rack at Walmart or Target and maybe put "one" or "two" photos on the kitchen wall as well. That way your living room and your kitchen will have a flow.
With that all said, just remember to keep it clean and simple. Hope this helps! =)
