Dorm Room Decorations : customizing a dorm room

Dorm rooms are a very important part of college life. They are a sanctuary, a place of fun, a habitat in which to work, reflect and just hang out. A dorm room is usually a place that is a young adults’ first time away from home and a symbol of independence. It is quite natural for a student to spend some effort personalizing their dorm room. There are a number of dorm room decorations online that are perfect for that. NCAA merchandise, dorm room décor and mood setting lights are excellent ways to personalize a dorm room.

NCAA stands for National College Athletic Association and it’s the governing body behind college basketball. Participipant schools devote considerable effort into their sports programs and this is well reflected by school spirit. Students love to personalize their room with NCAA merchandise that sports their schools colors. NCAA posters an appealing, effective and affordable way to quickly add a lot of color and mood to a room. Available for every NCAA basketball team, these 24×36″ posters are very inexpernsive. Your student will love the posters.

Dorm room décor encompasses many different things. One of the principal décor items are bean bag chairs. First popularized in the sixties, bean bag chairs are comfortable and practical. Todays’ are made of strong materials and colorfully emblazoned with an infite variety of themes. One of the most popular are sports team colors and logos. But they can also be had with musicians, abstract designs and more.

Mood setting lights are a particular effective and easy way to personalize a dorm room. The black light is one of the most common. The simple 18″ sleek look black light will cast a moody purple glow over a wide area. These are perfect for when friends come over. Black lights can be further augmented with tapestries. Colorful and intricate, black light tapestries add abundant character to any space. With astronomic designs, Oriental dragons, Aztec Suns, there is no taste that cannot be suited. Built of heavy flannel, these are also durable and look just as great in white light too.

Dorm room items are readily available online. The selection of items is vast and pleasant to browse. Items are cost effective and great for quickly turning a dorm room from a drab impersonal set of walls into a unique sanctuary. The online sources will ship the items to your door or you can have them delivered directly to your student for a helpful and well appreciated surprise.

Try them both to see which one gets you there.

White isn't a good color for a dining room.
A big boquet of flowers is pretty as a centerpiece, if moved before you all sit down to eat so you can see each other.
A beautiful chandalier isn't a bad idea, just so long as it's light is cast just on the food and on the faces of the guests and isn't too high or too low from the cieling.

Use rich colors for the dining room that spark conversation and appetite.
Such colors are reds, oranges and yellows. Anything around those colors. Rich, deep and bold colors and designs.
A mirror, very big or medium big also is nice to make it appear like more guests and food are in the dining room than really are and also reflects the lighting. Creates a great illusion.
A fireplace is nice in a dining room as well.
Pictures of food and tables and eateries or diners or cafes also are cute in a dining room, or just pictures of flowers and food.
Don't put pictures of people on the walls though cuz it'll give the feeling that you're being rudely stared at while you eat. :)

Have soft chairs without arms to sit on, (except at the head and foot of the table, these can have arms on the chairs), and have very minimal decoration. Keep the floor clear and clutter free, and no other distractions to take your focus from the food and the others eating with you. (i.e. TV's, radios, a gaucky picture, etc).
Big and luscious drapes are really neat in a dining room to put around or over the window(s).

I removed the drywall and installed a header across 4 studs on the top and a sill 26" below that. This allowed me to install my 42" plasma inside the wall. I built all the wires into the wall over to the stereo system. And put the drywall back. So all you see is the glass TV flush with the wall and the hole is 1/4" larger on all sides so you dont see the hole. Total cost was $30 plus another $40 for a faux paint job. I'm at work or I would add a pic.

You can go to Sherwin Williams color visualizer and pick rooms to repaint and change the furniture colors. It gives you an idea of what your room will look like with whatever colors you pick.

Since you're not allowed to paint the wall, then the best thing that you can do to add colors to your apartment is to purchase some nice curtains. Use a vibrant color for the curtains. I would suggest a color that match up with the pictures that you currently have on the wall. Keep all of your furnitures simple and if possible, in the same color. For example, a brown couch with black chairs and a white TV stand willl be too confusing for the eyes! If you don't mind me suggesting, perhaps you should take off those christmas tree lights. It just makes the room more clutter. Purchase a decent size rug to put under the coffee table. The rug should match with the color of the curtains. If you don't have a coffee table, then just put the rug infront of the couch. This will give the room a nice dimension and a homey feeling. You can even have throw pillows on the couch.

As for the kitchen, since the apartment is shared by two roomates, stainless steel would look nice and elegant. You don't want it too be too clutter since we're trying to make the apartment more spacious. You can purchase a stainless steel dish rack at Walmart or Target and maybe put "one" or "two" photos on the kitchen wall as well. That way your living room and your kitchen will have a flow.

With that all said, just remember to keep it clean and simple. Hope this helps! =)

PLEASE…Do not do what froglady says!!
For scrapbooking, there are a ton of adhesives on the market. Just go to a craft store and look in that section.

Try painters tape in your daughters room. It won't cause any damage at all, and should be sticky enough to hold foam letters. You can find painters tape in the hardware section with paint supplies.

    Good luck
