Decorating Your Baby’s Nursery

Decorating Your Baby's Nursery

Congrats! Your expecting and you are ready to decorate your baby’s nursery! Many mothers already have the nursery planned out before their baby is born, but some mothers wait until they have a baby shower to receive all of the necessities.

First and most important, is to decide where you want your precious bundle to sleep. Some parents start out with a bassinet and then later move onto a crib or some prefer to co-sleep, but that is the most important decision so you can decide if you should purchase a crib now or in a couple of months when your baby is older. The second important item is a changing table. Changing tables vary in style and design. Is your baby’s nursery small? Perhaps a changing table complete with drawers and cabinets would more suit your needs to hide away extra diapers, wipes and blankets. The third essential item is a dresser, you will need a place to store all of your baby’s clothing.

Decide on a color scheme. Step back and look at the room, would a light pink do if you are having a baby girl, or maybe blue if you are having a boy? Some parents match the nursery décor to the wall color and curtains. This is the fun part of decorating and is all up to your imagination! A small lamp is also essential, especially for nighttime feedings and do not forget the baby monitors! You will need one for the baby’s nursery and one for your room. Decide where the monitor will go, most parents put the monitor on their baby’s dresser.

Lastly, and most important is making sure that the furniture you purchase is safe, stay away from chemically treated wood.

Aw I think the rainbow idea would be a great idea, maybe throw in a cute mobile too? Babiesrus.com has some cute ones.

"When they’re born, babies see in black and white and shades of gray. Because newborns can only focus eight to twelve inches, most of their vision is blurred. Babies first start to learn to focus their eyes by looking at faces and then gradually moving out to bright objects of interest brought near them. Newborns should be able to momentarily hold their gaze on an object for a few seconds, but by 8-12 weeks they should start to follow people or moving objects with their eyes."

you might want to avoid the rug as 1) it will collect dust mites more and if your baby has allergies, this will affect breathing 2) if there are spills (as babies are wont to do) they are harder to clean up and might stain your rug.

if you really want a rug for the room, maybe a commercial rug. it is not too plush and comfy, but because of this, maintenence might be a lil easier and it shouldn't collect AS MUCH dust as other, more plush rugs would.

Maybe also you might want to see about an area rug for the babies play area. these can be easily taken outside and dusted out, washed and what have you.

Well, congradulations on your new baby !

You can find decor items at most pagan supply
shops online… an altar cloth makes a nice wall
tapestry… but really, the best thing to do is to
make some of these things yourself.

If you have a little artistic talent and some time,
I'm sure you can make some very unique things
which will give you a lot of satisfaction over time.

It's always nicer to make our decor items than
to buy them. It just makes a certain statement
    about you.

    Blessings,

    Jean
