Bedroom Decorating Ideas: Accented Walls With A Hint Of Mint
Tagged Under : Bedroom Decorating, Bedroom Decorating Ideas
There are many bedroom decorating ideas suitable for everybody’s tastes. Even with the Master Bedroom, many people go for bold, with bright colors and modern furniture. Other people prefer their bedroom decorating ideas to be traditional, with floral chintzes or embroidered brocade.
A particular idea is the sophisticated chic look, by which I suspect the interior decorators mean neutral creams and beiges with the intention of the room being a sanctuary, a haven of peace. The quickest way you can change the look of your bedroom is by moving around your furniture. That is fine in a home which has bedrooms large enough to do this.
So, for those many people who have bedrooms with problem shapes, you will have to rely on colors and fabrics. Paint the wall behind your bed as a rich accent wall – lovely rich burgundy, plum or deep blue. It will warm the room up without detracting from the room’s light. Another bedroom decorating idea is to use fabric for the accent wall.
If you measure the width of the wall from edge to edge and purchase some PVC covered piping you can drape the fabric from the piping which is strong enough to keep the fabric gently draped. A color scheme which always seems to work in the bedroom is a cool mint green which, together with beige, creates a little more than monochromatic color, livening it with a clean and crisp mint green fabric to induce a mood of gentle harmony. This creates a graceful look for the Master Bedroom.
Another shade of green often used in the bedroom is the celery shade of green for the walls and a darker shade of green for the fabrics and bedding. Hang ivory damask or green drapes from wood window poles to finish this look and create a calming peace which is both modern and bright. Other shades that would match with the mint or the celery green walls would be a regency stripe fabric in a pale pink, or alternatively, the shade of grey just slightly darker than silver but lighter than gun metal grey. With a silver grey, deep pile carpet, the effect is bright, clean with just enough color to provide a chic uplift to the bedroom.

Wow…That’s one lucky kid!
Well to start with a gaming teen boy will most likely not care what his decor is, unless it directly affects his gaming, or is game related… (well none that I have met care anyway) so I wouldn't go toooo far with decorating, leave the walls neutral, and put these up, I know it is old now, but they're so old they're now retro kitsch
space invaders wall decals (they also come in pacman) http://www.patriciafield.com/index.asp?PageAction=VIEWPROD&ProdID=354
Unfortunately this thing is only avail in eastern europe, but WOW! http://blog.wired.com/gadgets/images/2007/10/18/2battleprobig_2.jpg
back to reality though, for bedding I'd just use a totally plain cover that will wear well, the focus isn't about a bed cover in this room, so patterns or designs would be overbearing, unless of course he finds one he is crazy about??
For some great gaming seating target has lots but check this one out, its a sound lounger that is compatible with any audio device… http://www.target.com/Blue-Pyramat-Sound-Lounger-PM550/dp/B00069FEZ6/sr=1-2/qid=1216943582/ref=sr_1_2/602-9342378-8675002?ie=UTF8&index=target&field-original-keywords=Pyramat%20PM220%20Sound%20Rocker&rh=k%3Apyramat%20pm550%20sound%20rocker&page=1
but target has other gaming seating that is pretty cool… http://www.target.com/Video-Game-Furniture-Games-Electronics/b/602-9342378-8675002?ie=UTF8&node=13921431
and for console and games storage there are these two..

For all your other furniture I still think IKEA covers everything teens need, http://www.ikea.com/us/en/catalog/categories/departments/youth_room but to suit your theme, I'd start with the gaming accessories and then match the furniture, bedding and walls etc, for a cool take though, these lighting strips look fantastic (and if he's gaming overhead light isn't a great idea) http://www.ikea.com/us/en/catalog/products/50119407
I'd also use something like the tupplur roll blind to block out light, http://www.ikea.com/us/en/catalog/categories/departments/youth_room/10701/
and these glass globes look fantastic alone or on top of a little ikea light (can't remember its name but glass globe and light cost me about $20 together) and really look amazing in a darkened room.. http://www.ikea.com/us/en/catalog/products/90065662
Other than that, I'd be trying to find some posters of his favorite games, not making the room too bright, and here are a few other smaller ideas to accessorise the room (retro again but he may be too young to appreciate it??) http://www.fredflare.com/customer/product.php?productid=3714&cat=254

and last but not least, how tech savvy are you? because the score board is fantastic, but requires a bit of skill (and money) to do… (you'll have to scroll down) http://www.pcmag.com/article2/0,2817,1935015,00.asp
You go, girl. That was one awesome job!
You’re funny!
Fortunately the 140 other people who have left comments disagree!
By the way I have seen your video . . . . . nice!

play around with the Sherwin Williams color visualizer to find something that you like. It is the best paint visualizer on the web, imho. I like how their color palette is laid out, I like that you can search by color family & color name, the "painted" rooms look the most realistic, and it suggests coordinating color schemes. You can literally spend hours. Crazy Y!A isn't allowing me to post the link, so just google "Sherwin Williams Color Visualizer."
I think the color called "agate green" (# 7742) is a gorgeous color for a bedroom. Very natural & peaceful, & it should match a lot of things.
Great job – from boy’s room to bachelor crib in one week. REALLY stylish and it looks affordable and very practical too — all that storage! Plus, you kept it in line with his personal style. I really look forward to seeing more of your ideas!

Well, my older bro has his room painted a dark brownish tan color, with blue bedding. its very calming. he also likes music so he has a couple framed pics of some of his favorite bands on the wall. he also doesnt have alot of furniture, which is helpful for him because its more space to do stuff in. all teenage boys are messy, so my parents have a few storage places for him in there under his bed and in his closet. i hope that helps!

Use throw pillows to decorate your bed…the more pillows the better. Get all shapes and sizes. It creates an illusion that will make you want to fall into the middle of them…as if you were a little kid. Its a very comforting thought, sort of like a big hug. I rather enjoy it. Of course if you are married or living with a significant other then "HE" may not go for that as it will seem too girlie or childish to a guy. But hey if its your room…dazzle yourself. Be creative. Buy a few multicolored light bulbs to put in your lamps. Cover the lamp shades with scarves to emit a softer light. You can have all sorts of fun with that. Good luck.

Thanks hellojto,
Thats really nice of you to say!
Joeys room turned out really cool I agree.
Keep checking back. I am about ready to install another project only this one has been in the making for 7 months and involves a whole house! I hope to upload to youtube before the new year.
Amazing colors and vibe on this next one. I hope you’ll watch in the months to come . . . I’ll try to stay in your “hero” status as I continue to transform rooms and lives one house at a time!

Thank you Everywhere2,
Your comments are spot on. My goal was to provide much needed storage, Great style in accordance to Joey’s taste, functionality in a small space and to do it on an affordable budget. The majority of our projects are much larger and take much longer but this bedroom makeover was just 10 days from conception to completion which made it really rewarding and fun! Immediate gratification as it were.
Hope you subbed so you can be alerted to new uploads as they come!
Best, RR
